TFG Tradecast on Desert Dialogues: Pulse Check on Receivables Finance

Live from the desert, we heard from the leading voices that shaped pan-African trade.

Trade Finance Global (TFG) are delighted to have presented this very special live stream, 'Desert dialogues: Pulse check on receivables finance', on 9th October, ahead of the FCI 55th Annual Meeting, taking place in Marrakech on 29 October - 2 November 2023.

TFG heard from and live-streamed a panel, delving into the critical role of receivables finance in Africa's trade landscape, exploring its historical evolution, legal frameworks, and the pivotal role of development banks in shaping its future.

The livestream covered a range of topics, from the basics of receivables finance to its legal implications and the impact of digitalisation.

Questions were posed to the panellists on how receivables finance had evolved from traditional IOUs to modern financial instruments, the challenges that had hindered its growth in Africa, and the role of development banks in mitigating trade risks.

The session also touched upon the UNIDROIT Model Law for Factoring and its significance in creating a conducive legal environment for receivables finance.

This livestream served as a platform for thought leaders to share insights and strategies, aiming to accelerate the growth of receivables finance as a sustainable tool for trade in Africa.

The Panel was hosted by Mr Deepesh Patel, Chief Editor at Trade Finance Global (TFG), and featured industry-leading experts, including:
- Mr Ahmed Attout, Acting Director, Financial Sector Development, African Development Bank Group (AfDB)
- Ms Kanayo Awani, Executive Vice President, African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank)
- Mr Peter Mulroy, Secretary General, FCI
- Eng Hani Salem Sonbol, CEO, International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC)
