How to use live translation and captions with Wordly

FCI is committed to making our conferences more accessible and engaging for our global community. To support multilingual participation, selected FCI events offer live, AI-powered translation through Wordly, enabling attendees to follow sessions in their preferred language in real time.

Wordly is accessed via a simple web page on your smartphone, there is no app to download. For each event using Wordly, FCI will share a dedicated access link in the pre-event email sent to registered participants. At the start of the conference, a QR code will also be displayed on-screen, allowing you to join quickly using your phone’s camera.

Wordly in your mobile browser

This option lets you follow live translations on your phone during the conference.

  1. Arrive and take your seat in the conference room.
  2. Open Wordly using the link shared by the organiser in the pre-event email, or scan the QR code shown on-screen at the start of the conference.
  3. Select your preferred written language.
  4. Follow the live translation in your mobile browser (no app download required).
    • To listen to the translation, connect your own headphones/earbuds and use the audio option on your phone. Click the 'Speaker' button to hear a text-to-speech version of the translated dialogue.

Please keep audio muted or use headphones at all times so as not to disturb other attendees.

Troubleshooting

  • Check your pre-event email sent a few days prior to the conference, sent from fci@fci.nl. Please also check your spam folder.
  • If you are already in the room, scan the QR code shown on-screen at the start of the conference.

If you still can’t access Wordly, speak to the registration desk or an FCI staff member, and we will help you.

  • Increase your screen brightness and hold your camera steady for a few seconds.
  • Try scanning from a little further back (or slightly closer) to help your camera focus.

If it still doesn’t work, use the direct Wordly link from the pre-event email.

  • Confirm you are connected to the venue Wi-Fi (if provided) or have mobile data enabled.
  • Refresh the page, or close your browser and reopen it using the Wordly link.

If the issue continues, try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.

  • Check that you have selected your preferred language and that the session has started.
  • Refresh the page once, then wait a few seconds for the live feed to reconnect.
  • If you joined very early, try again once the speaker has begun.

  • Wordly audio requires you to use your own headphones/earbuds — please ensure they are connected to your phone.
  • Turn your phone volume up and check that your phone isn’t on silent mode.
  • If audio still isn’t available, use the on-screen text translation instead (audio may not be supported for every language).

If the button isn’t visible, it may mean audio output for that language isn’t supported, or you are using Display or High Contrast display modes on your device.

Switch back to standard display settings, or use the written translation in the browser.

Return to the language selection and reselect your preferred language.
