How to use live translation and captions with Wordly on Zoom
For this webinar, we provide two different language-support tools:
- Wordly (Read): live transcript with written translations (many language options)
- Zoom Interpretation (Listen): spoken interpretation audio in French or Russian
You can use either (or both) during the session. You don't need a Wordly account or to download the Wordly app to see translations and captions started by your host.
This option is recommended for reading translation.
- Join the webinar in the Zoom app.
- Accept the Notification for Wordly.
- If you decline by mistake or don't see it, in the Zoom toolbar, click Apps and open Wordly.
- In Wordly, select your preferred language in the dropdown.
- Follow along using the live transcript in the Wordly panel.
This option is useful if Zoom Apps are restricted.
- Join the webinar in Zoom.
- Open Wordly via the Wordly link shared by the organiser in your connection email, in the Zoom chat, or via the QR code.
- Select your preferred written language.
- Follow the live translation in your browser or on your phone.
- If you are on your phone, click the 'Speaker' button to hear a text-to-speech version of the translated dialog.
Use this option if you want to listen to spoken interpretation in French or Russian.
- Join the webinar in Zoom.
- In the meeting controls, click Interpretation (globe icon). If you don’t see it, click More first.
- Select French or Russian.
- (Optional) Select Mute Original Audio to hear only French (otherwise the original audio plays at a lower volume).
- Use headphones for best clarity.
