His professional and business career spanned over 40 years in the USA and Egypt. Over that period, he forged strong corporate relationships and personal friendships with and between major multinational and national corporations and business leaders on both sides of the Atlantic.

Gamal’s career started as a credit and marketing officer with Citi Bank in Cairo. This led him to join the banking community in the USA, eventually becoming Chief Regional Representative of the Bank of New York in the Middle East.  In 2002 he was recruited as CEO of the Egyptian Commercial Bank with a mandate to modernise and privatise the bank.  The bank was successfully sold to Piraeus Bank in 2006.  He was asked to stay on as CEO and Managing Director.

"Jimmy was a trailblazer in the factoring industry and really the father of factoring in Egypt. He was always so giving of his time and energy towards the betterment of our industry.  He will be sorely missed. It is a sad time for all of us, but especially for our colleagues in Cairo."  - Mr Peter Mulroy, FCI Secretary General
