FCI Executive Committee Spotlight - Mr Cagatay Baydar

In this edition of our spotlight series, we asked Çagatay Baydar, FCI Vice Chairman, to answer a few questions so you can get to know him better.

How does factoring help businesses grow?

Factoring is a magic product for companies. Magic is for companies and countries and continents that want to secure their A/R risks abroad. The factoring turnover always increased, especially after the pandemic days and global crisis. We saw this scenario in the 2008 – 2009 crisis as well. The reason lies in the three different kinds of services; Credit covers for buyers, collection services abroad and funding facilities with the cost premium of buyers. These three services help countries and companies secure their money. During volatile days, factoring is a lifesaver, especially for SMEs.

What got you started in the industry?

I started my career in 1987 as an auditor at Arthur Andersen and Co., joined Turkey's first factoring company in 1990 and then ran the biggest ones as Koç Factoring and TEB Factoring. On top of this, my biggest highlight was becoming FCI's chairman in 2011 and then the second time in 2016. So FCI is a milestone and carrier path for me. I am honoured to be an executive in the biggest association of the A/R industry.

What sport did you play in school?

I was an international water polo player in the Turkish Team when I was young. I played in the national team 40 times and represented Turkey in global championships. I am still an active player of Modasport F.C. in Turkey's first water polo division. I was one of the founders of the Masters Team of water polo in Turkey, and with the master team, I joined many games abroad. Water polo is not only a hobby for me; it is still a lifestyle that keeps me fit and happy.

Where would be your dream holiday location?

My favourite holiday location is Havana – Cuba. I like very much smoking a Cuban cigar with Cuban Rum. During the very sunny days of the Cuban climate, I can relax and enjoy my life there. Nice peoples, nice places, good atmosphere are there. You can find everything you want in Cuba.

We want to thank Çagatay for letting us get to know him a little more. Next week we will interview more of our Executive Committee, so stay tuned!
